HOPE MCDOWELL
“MARY”
HOPE McDOWELL is a native Philadelphian who grew up in the Hunting Park section of the city. Even as a child, she was interested in the creative arts. Her love of the arts began with listening to her mother sing at home and in church. Hope also watched as her aunt expertly crafted jewelry, wedding cakes and sewed amazing garments. Due to this early exposure to creative arts, in Hope’s high school years, she began to work on some of her creative passions. She was involved in the Frankford High School choir and All Philadelphia High School choir (All City Choir). With the All City Choir as well as the Temple University Chorale, Hope has performed on the stage of the Academy of Music and has traveled to compete in music festivals in Vermont and Maryland.
Hope gave her life to Christ when she was 13 years old. During her walk of faith, God spoke into her life early in her college career at Temple University, that instead of working with computers she would be working with children. She has been blessed to be able to do so with the School District of Philadelphia for the last 7 years and the ACE Afterschool Program at Martha Washington School. In both of these positions, Hope has been able to share the God given creative talents she was so passionate about as a child. Hope has also written plays for youth groups at church.
